Two of India’s greatest cricketers, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are expected to return to Team India for the upcoming ODI series against England in July 2026. Both players retired from Tests and T20Is earlier this year but will remain available for the team in One-Day Internationals.
Retirement from T20 and Test formats
Rohit and Virat Kohli have led India to many T20Is but have since retired from T20 cricket, having led them to victory in the T20 World Cup in 2024. Soon after, they retired from Test cricket as well. Since then, they have not featured in the ongoing five-match Test series in England, which is part of the World Test Championship.
India returns to ODIs after a long break
India hasn’t played an ODI since March 9, 2025, which means both teams and several senior players have been away from the 50-over format for over a year. However, with several ODI series lined up ahead, their return bodes well. India will take on Australia in October 2025, followed by South Africa (December) and New Zealand (January 2026), and we’ll see both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma playing in all of these series.
