IND vs ENG 5th Test: Gill Hails Siraj’s Warrior Spirit After Oval Heroics

India secures a thrilling win- IND vs ENG

Acting skipper Shubman Gill was ecstatic after India’s thrilling six-run win over England in the fifth Test at the Oval, levelling the five-match series 2-2. In a dramatic finish, India’s bowlers, led by Mohammed Siraj’s fiery spell, turned the match around.

England resumed Day 5 with just 35 runs and four wickets in hand, and looked very close to victory. But Siraj had other plans. He attacked with all his might, picking up three wickets on the final day to finish with a magnificent five-wicket haul (5 for 88). He was well supported by Prasidh Krishna, as England were bowled out for 371 and bundled out for a very low total.

‘He is a captain’s dream’

Gill was full of praise for Siraj’s effort.

Shubhman Gill said Mohammad Siraj performed very well. Whatever he bowled in all five Test matches, he gave it his all.”

He admitted that captaincy becomes much easier when the bowlers are in rhythm.

He added, “They were making the ball dominator. The way Siraj and Prasidh went out on the field aggressively was brilliant.”

Strategic moves and mental strength

Gill revealed that bowling the second new ball late and using a spread field was a deliberate move. The aim was simple: to put pressure and force mistakes.

“Pressure forces teams to do things they don’t want to do,” he explained.

Gill, who was also named Player of the Series, attributed his success to physical and mental preparation.

“You are mentally ready only when you are physically ready,” he said.

Never give up

Summarising the series, Shubhman Gill said:

“We never give up.”

India‘s emphatic win not only levelled the series but also proved that they kept fighting in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, proving once again that great comebacks can be made with superior performance and belief.
