A star on the rise in Chicago
Manchester United continued their stellar pre-season with a 4-1 win over Bournemouth at Soldier Field in Chicago. Although the scoreline was impressive, 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu stole the headlines with a goal and an assist that will surely catch the attention of manager Ruben Amorim.
Dorgu’s impact on the left
Playing as a left wing-back in Amorim’s formation, Dorgu impressed. Just eight minutes in, he delivered a perfect cross that Rasmus Hojlund headed into the net to give United an early lead. Moments later, Dorgu displayed his attacking instincts again, beating Julian Araujo with ease and calmly scoring to double United’s lead.

United’s young players put on an even brighter show in the second half. Amad Diallo capitalised on a defensive lapse to score the third goal, and Ethan Williams sealed the win with a superb header after a spirited run from Diego Leon – another promising youngster. Dorgu, who managed just one assist in 12 Premier League games last season, looked like a much more complete player. His aggression, pace and confidence fit perfectly into Amorim’s high-pressing system. With the regular season approaching, he has made a strong argument for a place in the starting XI.
